Gucci to Develop Smart Glasses with Google by 2027

Gucci to Develop Smart Glasses
Kering Confirms Gucci Smart Glasses With Google

Kering has confirmed that it is working with Google to develop Gucci-branded smart glasses, with a potential launch expected in 2027. The project signifies the planned entry of a luxury fashion label into the smart eyewear segment.

The French luxury group, which owns brands including Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta, has been taking steps to address a decline in Gucci’s performance. The brand recorded a 19-22 per cent decline in revenue during 2025. The downturn led to organisational changes, including the removal of Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno.

Gucci has since shifted its direction, returning to more traditional design approaches and increasing its focus on product categories such as jewellery and eyewear. These categories represent a smaller portion of the business but recorded growth during the same period.

Kering has indicated that its collaboration with Google involves developing smart glasses powered by the Android XR operating system. The expected release timeframe places the product in the market in 2027, subject to development timelines.

The planned launch would position Kering alongside other companies already active in the smart eyewear sector. EssilorLuxottica has an existing partnership with Meta, which has been extended until 2030, to produce smart glasses under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands.

EssilorLuxottica reported sales of more than seven million smart glasses units in 2025. The figure contributed to a significant increase in total revenue for the category since the introduction of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in 2023.

The company’s product range includes multiple models and updates, such as revised versions of Ray-Ban Meta glasses and Oakley-branded designs, including HSTN and Vanguard. The range also includes a higher-priced model equipped with an advanced display.

The addition of a Gucci-branded product would extend the range of devices associated with Google’s Android XR system across several price segments. Other companies are also preparing products within the same category.

Apple is reported to be developing several smart glasses models, with releases expected in late 2026 or early 2027. This would introduce further competition within the market.

Google is also working with additional partners on smart eyewear. Planned releases include products developed with Gentle Monster, Warby Parker, and Samsung, with several models expected to launch this year.

The schedule for the Gucci smart glasses remains dependent on development progress, with the current indication pointing to a 2027 release. Further details have not been revealed.
